Francisco Tamayo, the son of Mexican immigrants, is an accomplished educator with over 25 years of experience, a dedicated community volunteer, and a loving father. He is running for reelection to the Chula Vista Elementary School District (CVESD) Board to continue his mission of maintaining quality education as the district’s primary focus.
For over a decade, Francisco has been a passionate advocate for quality education in CVESD. As a member of the school board for the past 10 years, he has prioritized supporting teachers and ensuring a high-quality learning environment for all students. In collaboration with Chula Vista Educators (CVE), Francisco has been involved in multiple contract negotiations, developing innovative solutions to enhance teacher compensation. His efforts reflect a deep commitment to attracting and retaining exceptional educators in the district.
Francisco has played a crucial role in advancing key initiatives that support students, such as the implementation of Community Schools and continued support for the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). He is particularly passionate about ensuring every student meets grade-level standards in reading by the third grade, recognizing the critical importance of early literacy.
School safety is another area of focus for Francisco. He works closely with teachers, staff leadership and parent leaders to address issues affecting both educators and students. By fostering a safe and supportive environment, Francisco aims to enhance teaching and learning experiences across the district.
Francisco has been a key champion for recognizing the value of quality schools by prioritizing and investing millions of dollars to renovate and upgrade school campuses. Under his tenure, three new schools have been constructed: Muraoka Elementary, Fahari Jeffers Elementary, and Sonia Sotomayor Elementary.
As a parent of a student in CVESD, Francisco understands firsthand the importance of parent engagement. He actively promotes the role of parents in educational advisory committees, believing that strong family involvement is key to student success.
Francisco lives in East Chula Vista with his two children, who proudly attend Chula Vista’s public schools. He holds a bachelor’s degree in information technology from Colorado State University and professional certifications as a Chief Business Official and Human Resources Professional.
